South Park
General Overview: 
South Park is a neighborhood of south central Charlotte about six miles from Uptown. Centered at the intersection of Fairview Road and Sharon Road, this high quality neighborhood was once part of a 3,000 acre farm owned by former North Carolina Governor Cameron Morrison. The farm’s main house, the Morrocroft Mansion is a 14,000 square foot Tudor Revival house built between 1924 and 1927. Today South Park includes a large high quality residential area and also an upscale business district, the second largest in North Carolina.
Special Features:
South Park is the home of the South Park Mall, known as Charlotte’s most upscale shopping center. The area also has many other fine shopping and dining options.
Schools:
Public schools as well as many private schools, universities and community colleges are available in the Charlotte area.
Employment and Business:
South Park is home to the Fortune 500 Company Nucor, as well as National Gypsum, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Consolidated, Piedmont Natural Gas and J.A. Jones Construction Company. Maersk, Bank of America Mortgage, First Citizens Bank, and CSX all have major divisional operations located in South Park.

Recreation:
In addition to the many recreational opportunities of Charlotte, the Harris YMCA and Siskey YMCA are both easily accessible to South Park and offer huge fitness centers, special programs for children, playing fields and water parks. The Mecklenburg Aquatic Club is another option for swimming and offers both lessons and team competition. The Charlotte Park and Recreation Department operates two greenways in south Charlotte which offer 4.9 miles of trails. There are several county parks in the area. South Park is home of the Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops concerts. These free evening concerts are performed at the new amphitheater called Symphony Park. South Park Mall also features a beautiful annual Christmas tree lighting on Thanksgiving Day.
