General Overview: 
Matthews started as a small cotton farming community in the 1800s. It has maintained its small town feeling and identity while continuing to grow. Today about 25,000 people inhabit the Town of Mathews with its historic downtown, attractive neighborhoods, tree lined streets and shaded sidewalks. Even its retail areas strive to honor the 100 year heritage of the community. Mathews also includes a variety of churches, and small parks.

Mathews’ excellent public schools are part of the Mecklenburg County system.
Central Piedmont Community College Levine Campus offers one hundred degree and certification programs including corporate training.Wingate University Metro College offers Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Liberal Studies degrees in six majors.

Matthews is close enough to easily access the diverse employment and business opportunities of the greater Charlotte area.
Housing Options:
Matthews offers mainly single family homes arranged in low density neighborhoods. The affordable housing needs of service workers, senior citizens, and young couples have also been met through a variety of housing forms compatible with single family neighborhoods, (rather than typical large complexes).
